Spectators left admiring the delicate patterns at the Temple of Hung Kings in Can Tho City
Not only is the Temple of Hung Kings in Can Tho City a meaningful cultural and spiritual site, but also a unique architectural and artistic work where significant historical imprints of Vietnam during the Dong Son culture period are conserved and preserved.
The Temple of Hung Kings in Can Tho City is a project sponsored and built by Van Phu – Invest on a scale of more than 3.9 hectares. After more than 2 years of construction, the project was completed, and on April 7, 2022 the temple was officially opened for people and tourists from all over the world to visit.
Once setting foot at the Temple of Hung Kings in Can Tho City, visitors cannot help but be overwhelmed by the unique architecture and “collection” of antiques, textures, and decorative patterns imbued with the history of the Hung Kings period.

To create a project with such a distinctive meaning in terms of spiritual and cultural values, before the commencement of the project, Investor Van Phu – Invest conducted thorough research and coordinated with the Vietnam National Historical Museum to consult experts and synthesize the documented cultural and historical studies. Thanks to that, the developer was able to develop an artistic design plan for the Temple of Hung Kings in Can Tho city.
The work includes the Main Temple, the Operation House, the Stelae House, and Nghi Mon [Main entrances]. Among those, the highlight is the Main Temple modelled based on the image of the Ngoc Lu bronze drum with 18 surrounding bows representing 18 generations of Hung Kings.

The pattern on the bows was inspired by design on the Ngoc Lu bronze drum from the Dong Son culture period, which was about 2000 – 2500 years ago. The decorations on the pillars, altar walls, bows, and lake slopes are meticulously finished with high precision by the ingenious hands of skilful artisans. In front of the altars on the second floor standing a frieze illustrating the historical story of the Hung Kings’ era.
The wall area outside the main temple is carved with delicate bronze drum patterns. On 54 stone pillars in the lake also illustrate patterns associated with the Dong Son cultural period and show the solidarity and attachment of 54 ethnic groups in Vietnam.

During the construction process, Van Phu – Invest chose to cast the patterns separately into each sheet of glass-reinforced concrete (GRC) and secure it on the concrete bows by drilling anchors and screwing, then inserting specialized mortar. Thanks to that, each texture and pattern looks sharp, uniform and precise to every detail, demonstrating the dedication of the creator.
It can be seen that Van Phu – Invest has poured all its passion into the Hung King’s Temple to create a spiritual and cultural work that is rich in art, fulfilling the aspirations towards the origin of the majority of people in the Mekong Delta and southern provinces.
According to a representative of Van Phu – Invest, “The Temple of Hung Kings in Can Tho is a meaningful work built in many years by Van Phu – Invest with all respect and enthusiasm. Each design at the temple has been carefully researched, meticulously designed and finished to carry national identity. Therefore, this is not only an architectural work rich in art but also a legacy for future generations, so that generations of descendants always remember and commemorate the merits of their ancestors who founded and fight for the country. At the same time, these works contribute to preserving and promoting national cultural values – the pride of every Vietnamese”.
Each pattern at the Temple of the Hung Kings in Can Tho City implies the pride of the heroic history and the diverse culture of the Vietnamese nation, thereby fostering patriotism and passing on the tradition of “Drinking water, remembering its source” to future generations.
